Scope/Hammer Clearance
« on: October 05, 2006, 03:55:55 PM »
Hello,

I just got my new H&R .25-06 Ultra Hunter today and was mounting the scope.  It's a Leupold 2-7x 30mm scope with 1" Weaver 4x4 Medium rings.

Anyways, the clearance between the hammer and the scope is about a milimeter.  Does anyone see this becoming a problem?  I've checked the hammer several times and it doesn't hit the scope, but I'd rather catch any problems now before I sight it in Saturday.

Works for me! As long as it's not leaving any marks on the scope, and the scope doesn't move, you're good to go. You can always take a touch off the hammer spur with a dremel if you want a little wiggle room. ;)

Perhaps this is a typo...I've seen Leupolds 22mm...28mm...33mm...and up.....but never a 30mm...Hopefully your not using a European 30mm tube with a set of 1" rings...are you?

I agree with Quick, That's FINE!!!

Its best to get them as close to the barrel as possible. With that scope the hammer is the limiting factor. My all time favorite BTW, I have one on almost every hunting rifle I own, nice choice!!

Here is a PIC of the clearance I get with that same scope and Leupold PRW MED rings. The first one is my 500 S&W the second my .243 Ultra.

Thought I had a pic of it on mt 25-06 Ultra, but cannot find it. Its identical to the .243 anyhow.

It's this, so 33mm.  I guess I typoed it.

Thanks for all the help folks.  I'll find out how she shoots on Saturday. :)
