re: archery kill

Hello...

I've been hunting in Maine.  Had a good day yesterday.  Almost got a shot in the morning, but the deer smelled me and took off before I could draw.  In the afternoon, got this little doe.  Shot was broadside about 20 yards.  Deer took off across a clear cut area, ran 20 yards and collapsed in a heap.  I had a dickens to find it, and there was no blood trail.  The broadhead broke off in the
chest cavity, as shown by the pic and the cuts on my right hand.

 Cheers,
Gary

Nice deer! I consider any archery deer a trophy. I got a big doe last night. It was my first since retiring to NC from NY. Also my first this century. So I have bow killed deer in 5 different decades... Fingers no sights. My 25 year old Browning Mirage can still put 3 on a paper plate at 25 yards. The neat thing is that I used an arrow from a dozen my wife gave me the year we left the Hudson Valley. Gave up tree stands for stalk years ago. I shoot as many deer on the ground, as I used to in tree stands. Less boredom for me...
Congratulations on your fine kill!

Hello...

Thanks for all the congratulations.  I surely had an enjoyable hunt this year, and this little doe believe it or not makes all my efforts worthwhile.  And I am sure it will be very delectable.  I found a good place to hunt, over an active trail, in a natural funnel area populated by many oak trees.  There are acorns galore littering the ground, and of course the deer feed on these.  It is in a pretty remote area, back up in the hills.  Aside from an occasional ATV, I saw nobody the whole time I was hunting.  I have been placing my trail cam in this area, and I have pictures of a monster buck that is checking out his scrapes late at night.  Now, if I can only entice him to show himself during firearm season - that's where I am going to be!

Cheers,
Gary

Nice lil deer there Bud. And yes an archery deer of ANY size in Main is a trophy..Them suckers are HARD to hunt up there with a bow...went 7 days 2 years ago and saw 3 deer....in 7 days...all beyond bow range  :-[ Lil hint with the broadhead cut... If you dont find your arrow intact before finding the deer. USE CAUTION when field dressing it. cuzz more than likely you have it in the cavity somewhere. Enjoy the roasts...that'll be some GOOD eatin ;D
You want a divorce if I go hunting today??? Well sorry ta see ya go...Was nice knowin ya..Dont let tha door hit ya where tha good lord split ya :D
