ProHunter FlexTech stock - does it work as advertised?
« on: October 07, 2006, 10:02:13 AM »
The ad for the TC prohunter shows the FlexTech stock - it says  "reduces felt recoil by 43%".

What do you think?  does it work?

I have an encore with a .405 winchester barrel  - factory wood stock.  Ouch!   The local store has a Flex Tech stock for $99.  Is it worth it?

I bought one in the spring, it tames my 7mm Mag down to about 243 recoil or less. It should come with a Sims recoil pad that does a lot of the work

I have 2 of them and I would say, they work as advertised.

I have one in a 243 barrel (Pro Hunter). I really like the gun, but the 243 doesn't really count when it comes to testing the stock. But as far as comfort of the stock for shooting, I give T\C an A+ on this one.

Dave.

PS- Next spring when I get the S&W 460 rifle barrel.....I'll let ya know about recoil.

I bought the FlexTech stock - (black, no thumbhole) - and put it on the .405 winchester.

The shape alone makes a huge difference.  It allows me to get right down on it and look through those iron sights without getting all beat up by the stock.   And that big squishy recoil pad really takes the edge off.   :)

With the wood stock I couldn't shoot off the bench at all.  With the FlexTech I put 25 rounds down range before I had to give up.

I think it was worth the money.  Now I'm off to find out how the Elk feel about the .405.   :D

I have an Encore barrel in Sharps 2.5"; with 450 grain loads the recoil is pretty serious.  The Flex Tech stock makes a tremendous difference, I can shoo tmore than five shots a session now!

Where did you have it rechambered to 2.5  at? Or did you order it that way. I was thinking of doing a 45-90 or 45-110 for an Encore barrel

I had them make the whole thing, great barrel, great guys.  The caliber list says "short", but they mean "Sharps".
One question:  Why get the long Sharps chamber instead of just going with the .458 Lott?  That gives a little more flexibility, I think.  One can shoot .458 Win Mag ammo too, in a pinch.

I don't want a .458 Lott, I am looking to shoot black powder in the barrel. I have a Shiloh Sharps in 45-70 that I shoot black powder cartridges in. I just thought it would be cool to shoot some 550 gr. paper patch bullets out of an Encore in 45-90 or 45-110.

Also thanks for the information.

Good answer; we don't all want to play the same games.  I have no interest at all in BPC guns, but loading smokeless in big bores with large cases is what I call fun.  Cast bullets, of course.
 :)

That Shiloh is one heavy puppy; a friend of mine has one.  My 45/70 is a Handi; I'll get a "better" one some day.

Good talking to you;

Larry
