Breech plug: Why bother?

I finally got my plug stuck fast and am wondering so what?  I never removed it from my Renegade so why is it necessary to add that step in cleaning process for in-line?  I shoot 777 which cleans up with plain hot water & follow up with Ballistol.  The only advantage I see is it allows a complete pass through from muzzle to breech but that has never been a problem with older guns with more or less fixed breech bolts.  I'm also getting lazy with my bolt assembly and am soaking the whole assembly in water followed up with Ballistol and that, too seems to work out fine.  Is all that cleaning really necessary?

Cuz' it wears out!

Not only weill the flashhole enlarge, but the wall & threads will eventually weaken. Even the face that surrounds the 209 primer will eventually deform - causing burrs and misaligned primers that will someday need 2 shots to properly seat & fire.

Thanks for replies;  After a 2 hour soaking in boiling hot water I got the plug out.  What about bolt assembly?  After soaking it in hot water it rubs down shiny clean.  I then follow with Ballistol rub down.  My gun is a stainlss Knight and all I shoot is ca. 90 grains of 777 & musket caps.

When I pull my breech plug after cleaning the barrel thoroughly, there is still a tonof crud in the concave face of the plug.  I wouldn't want to leave that in there, and I doubt the gun would function well without cleaning it out.

use teflon plumber's tape (white, NOT the yellow gas stuff).  No mess, no problems with stuck plugs.

I use Shooters Choice high temp greese on my breech plugs. I have shot 20 shots and the breech plug came right out.
