1200+ lbs of hogs
« on: April 15, 2003, 06:45:08 AM »
just got Back from SC where we killed some big hogs.

Both hunters in our group that paid for the guaranteed hunts with dogs killed big hogs. The Black boar weighed 543 lbs. and the red sow weighed 450 lbs. Both were killed with one bullet from Marlin 30.30 lever action using factory Power points. Neck and behind the ear.

A buddy and I hunted on stands baited with molassess and never saw a hog on the stands. While sneaking to on of my stands I found two boars rooting about 20 yards away. The 7600 30.06 barked twice and two hogs went down. 195 lbs and 100lbs. Later that evening, another guy (not in our group, but boar hunting on the same plantation with us) walked up on two. both around 200-225lbs. he shot those with a remington 760 I think.

The two big hogs were monsters. the biggest was so bad that he kept on feedign and rooting a little while the dogs were "baying" him. When we strung him up, he measured over 8 ft from hind feet to nose... then the cable snapped.

I constantly hear that SC has good hog hunting.  In fact, I have seen several hunting shows where they were hunting hogs in SC.  I go hog hunting in Texas, but I think that I just may give good 'ole SC a chance one day.
