Lesson learned the expensive way
« on: October 11, 2006, 09:05:56 AM »
I bought a 7mm-08 encore pistol in March and I have shot it several 100plus times. The barrell never shot that great It would shoot about 4inch diameter at 25 yards and get worse the farther you shot. I felt that it was recoil and it was me trying to learn how to shoot a pistol with scope becasuse I am new to pistol shooting. Anyway to get back to the story I sent the barrell off and had a muzzlebrake put on it thinking the recoil was why I couldn't get it to shoot better and I had a T'Sob scope mount put on also.  The thing that I learned was before you spend a lot of money on a barrell make sure it shoots good and shoots a pattern you are happy with before you spend on extra money. I guess I learned the hard way. Thompson Center is wending my muzzle brake back and my scope mounts back to me so I can have at least the scope mount put on the new barrell but that will be an expense also.  The point is to especially new Encore shooters is to make sure you have a good shooting gun before you spend money on it.  I am very happy with the service that I have recieved by Thompson Center but dissappointed about the money I lost. I cannot imagine a barrel from T/C shooting that bad.  That is a good caliber and should shoot very well  even with factory ammo.   I would not junp to the conclusion that it is a bad barrel.  Were you using a scope, and was it secure on the barrel?  Was it sighted in properly?  Is the scope defective?  Did you shoot it with the muzzle brake, and was it any better?  Don't give up on it, it may just be a simple problem, and a big cost savings to you if you can salvage it.

Good Luck

Sal, I have shot it several times and I had somebody else shoot it several times with the same results and since Thompson Center is replacing the barrell I figure they had the same results. I posted this mainly to new encore owners to make sure everything is good before putting additional money into there gun.

I had the same problem with the 460 Barrel. I sent it back and am awaiting a response.
