good job
how about some details, where did you get him, what where you using?
West central Alberta, in the Swan Hills. I was using a ZKK-602 chambered in .416 RemMag with 400gr RN Hornady IL's. My partner and I rode ATVs to the edge of a big cutblock and then walked about 1/2 mile down an old trail and called there for 1-1/2 hrs, with no success.
We decided to leave before dark with the hopes that we might catch a moose out on the trail. when we got to our ATVs my buddy saw this bull with a cow, down in the cutblock about 250 yards. By this time it was right at the end of legal shooting light so I had to move quickly down towards them without spooking the moose.
I got to about 200 yards and found a log I could sit on, that allowed me to rest my elbows on my knees for a solid aim. I cranked the scope to 6X and took a careful aim. My first shot hit the bull broadside in the shoulder and went completely through the bull; an instant after I fired my hunting partner Sheldon shot it (225gr .338WM). The bull took both of those without falling. It staggered forward about 10' and I shot a second time. That bullet hit the spine and dropped the bull in it's tracks.
When we skinned out the moose we recovered Sheldons .338 bullet and the 400gr IL that had hit the spine. Both were against the hide on the far (right) side.
It took us until 4:30 in the AM to get this bull out of the cutblock and back to camp. We went to bed at 4:45 AM...
