That's my "30-30 Carbine." I had the barrel cut to 18 inches for a Truck Gun, which we carry most of the in this part of the country. (And of course, only use when off road.) Because it is so handy and is with me most of the time, it has taken a fair number of game. I load a 150gr Hornady SST for her and she will perform right along with a factory 300 savage. In an emergency, she also likes the factory Winchester 150gr and 170gr Silver-Tips.
I like short barrels with straight buttstocks. I also make up a 20 inch 45-70 and 16 inch 223. I like your idea of adding a barrel band. If you do, please post a picture of it. Here is my "45-70 Carbine" with a factory barrel band.
