Gun fails to fire?
« on: October 11, 2006, 06:12:20 PM »
I bought a Super 14" Bull Barrel in .44 Mag. and it will not fire (the hammer block will not move out of the way).  I have surmised from reading several posts on the subject that it is most likely due to the locking lugs not engaging fully.  I have measured the lugs of several barrels that do fire with this frame and they appear to match the .44 mag. barrel's lugs exactly (to .000).  My question is, do you stone the flat bottom side of the lugs or do you stone the concave top of the lugs?  I have stoned all sides very lightly to remove any small burrs but it did not result in a successful firing.

Call T/C and get the split lugs.

It has split lugs already.

There are split lugs that have a seperate roller underneath, and the newer style that have no roller.
I recently had a barrel with split lugs and roller that failed to fire,   I called T/C and they shipped a newer style split lug that didn't have the roller,  everything worked great immedialty after installing.

Hope it helps,

Thanks Eyeyall,

This barrel has the split lugs with the roller underneath.  I will call T/C and get a set of the new lugs, hopefully this will clear it up.  I really appreciate your response!

Open the action.  Put a little grease on the surface of the lugs closest to the chamber.  The U should be kind pointed at the firing pin area of the frame.  Close the action, and reopen.  Did the grease move?  Is the top surface of those lugs shiny again?  If the top surface is not clean of grease for at least an area to about half way to the bottom of the U, the locking lugs are not engaging all the ways.  Barrel lugs are not exact either.  That is why the locking lugs are a little different.  This barrel may need a thinner lugs than the other barrels you have.  That top surface is what you polish.  It does have about a 3 degree slope to it.  It's surface is not flat.

Good luck,
