Eastern KY Coyotes
« on: October 12, 2006, 11:41:22 AM »

Where are all the coyotes in eastern KY, I have heard there around but yet to see one. Floyd, Pike, Martin,
Knot and Perry counties. Do any of you guys hunt them in the east?

I live in Perry county and we have them here.  I do not hunt them personally but I have a friend that does.

I know my aunt over in Letcher co. has them, I just haven't been down home to shoot them yet for her :) It is in my round tuit pile as they don't raise livestock anymore.

They have just about destroyed the rabbit population in my area.

Their there. Trust me. Im a trapper and they clog up my cat and fox sets all the time. The reclaimed strips are a prime place to hunt.

Thanks guys for the info. I recently bought a H&R ultra varmint fluted in 22-250,haven't got it all together yet. Still need to scope it an such. $ a little tight right now, but I hope to get it together before the season is gone. I have never hunted coyotes before, just wanted to make sure there was someplace to hunt close to home. Floyd county.

Hi all just stopped in. My kind of place. We have'em here in Fleming county to. great for me , as varmits are my passion. don't get me wrong love deer and turkey too.Varmit season lasts a lot longer. mostly coyotes and crow, local farmers welcome me for the crow reduction. Someone has to do it might as well be me ! I don't think some hunters know what they really miss in a good crow shoot or coyote calling .Thats OK though if everbody did it things would be different. Anyway if you are hunting early M/L season GOOD LUCK ! Let me know how ya'all did.

Are the pelts from here worth trying to save, I guess what i trying to say is "are they full enough to go to the trouble" . Was thinking maybe we are to far south for them to fill out Really Nice. Coyote Pelts.

I killed one out back here in Shelby County back in the Spring.  He wasn't 50 yards from the house.  His pelt was not all that thick but then again, it was already hot when I shot him.  He was by himself, as far as I could see, and a cow kept lunging at him but he kept coming back around the calves so I shot him with my .308.  He was a hoss of a 'yote.  Well fed.
