Bass Pro Shops...
« on: October 13, 2006, 03:05:31 AM »
Bass Pro Shops has some Ruger Blackhawk, Super Blackhawk, and other Ruger guns at prices about 150 below list. If you use a Bass Pro Shops credit card...then on your first purchase you get an additional 10% off. Literally...one can get a STAINLESS Ruger SUPER Blackhawk for about $450 out the door including tax.

What is the difference between the Super Blackhawk and the regular blackhawk. Also how would you compare stainless to blued in this gun? I assume they both are made to the same specs.

The main difference is the frame size.  The Super Blackhawk uses a larger and stronger frame to handle the higher pressures of large bore magnum calibers, while the standard Blackhawk utilizes a smaller frame for small bore magnums and low pressure large bores. As for dimensional differences between a stainless and blued gun, there are none.

Jason didn't get it quite right, the frames on New Model Blackhawks and Super Blackhawks are exactly the same and can both handle the same amount of pressure.  The grip frame on the Super is slightly larger and may or may not be more comfortable for you.  The hammer is also slightly different.  As for stainless vs. blue, blue looks great when it is new but requires a little more care to keep it looking good.  Stainless is low maintenance and cost more.
