New Pro-hunter ML killed first deer today
« on: October 13, 2006, 02:51:38 PM »
Well I went out today for Delaware M/L season, I missed opening day last week and tomorrow it is over tell January. I was sitting in my stand and seen a nice 6 point buck come by, I let it pass to grow up some more. I got tired of sitting in my stand and decided to make my way to the edge of the woods to an open field at 6 PM. I laid down on the ground in the prone position for the last hour of the hunt. At 6:45 PM I had two small doe's come out to the field at 105 yards away, I used my range finder to check the distance, I waited 5 minutes and nothing else came out in the field and I decided to take one of the doe's.  I was using 120 gr. of loose triple 7 and a 250 gr. bonded shockwave bullet. I hit the doe and it ran 20 yards and piled up. Well now I got meat for the freezer. The good thing about the day was letting that nice 6 point walk to grow up and pass it's genes on. The rack was past it's ears and would be considered a quality buck in Delaware, but I am looking for something bigger.

Now I am off the clean my M/L.. ;D

Congrats Redhawk! I had a feeling the first report of a kill with the Pro Hunter would come from you. ;D

Congratulations Redhawk! Did you get a pass through or did you recover the bullet? Just curious how these bonded bullets are doing. :)

I got complete pass through. It went through the ribs, top of heart and a little lung. Entrance hole was small and exit hole was about 2 inches, no bullet recovery.  :(

Thanks, I feel real good about my set up, I think I will use my muzzleloader for shot gun season also.

Congrats Redhawk!  I looked at one at Gander Mountian yesterday.  That is one nice handling rifle.  Myabe someday if I'm real good and brush my teeth everyday and say my prayers Santa will bring me one, doubtful but it's worth a shot. ;)

Redhawk, can you notice a diffence in recoil between the Pro hunter and the Encore?
I was just looking at an ad for the Pro Hunter today and it claims a 43% reduction in felt recoil with the FlexTech stock.
Would the FlexTech stock fit on the Encore?  Right now my Encore has the black composit stock on it.  Anyone know what a FlexTech stock might go for?

I have both, a  50 Cal Encore and a 50 Cal Pro-hunter Encore. The flex stock does indeed reduce the recoil. I noticed the difference right away, I also took both of my Encores to the range to shoot them side by side, the accuracy is the same in my opinion, both of my 50 Cal Encores shoot MOA at 100 yards. My first choice when hunting will be the Pro-hunter.  ;D

The Pro hunter stock I think goes for $129.00. Check here.

Sounds like a nice set up Redhawk and congrats on the fresh meat. Didnt realize you were from Delaware, I live down here in Lewes. Where did you buy your Pro-Hunter? I have been waiting until my local gun shop replenishes his stock of them. He had two of them, but they did not sit around long. Is the Pro-Hunter an Omega or Encore?

I took a real nice fat mature doe last Friday with my new 20ga. USH on a farm I hunt down here. I had problems with my ML but now it appears solved. Maybe we can get together some time and range shoot?

Congrats on the doe, and good decision to let the 6pt'r walk...

Flatshooter, I am in Magnolia right out side of Dover.
I bought my Pro-hunter from Smyrna Sporting goods, Shooter choice has a couple of them in stock.  It is the Encore.

I would like to get together and go shooting some time, I am a member at Shooters Choice, so we can go there and shoot handguns, or we can go to Suddlersville and shoot at the out door range that I am a member of.

CallaoJoe, yea we know the only way to get big bucks is let the little ones walk. I don't have to shoot them to enjoy my hunt.  ;D

Congratulations.  Great story.  You've got my "fever" up now!!  Does eat just fine!
I'm with you 100% on letting the bucks with good genes walk (unless you are willing to mount it for your wall that is).
That's how we "manage" the hunting on our farm.  If you want to shoot a buck, fine, but be willing to mount it
or be ready to pay for my next mount.  It's really cut down on the young bucks getting whacked.

I'll let each of my 2 boys take whichever deer they want for they're first deer.  After that, needs to be a pretty nice deer.  I'm in an antler point restricted area, has to be 4 pt's to a side.  But for the youth season, all deer are legal.  My first son killed a spike 2 years ago for his first.  Taking my 12 year old out this weekend, he has yet to kill his first, so it'll be up to him when the time comes.  Once he kills his first though, he'll live by the AR's like the rest of us, even during the youth season.  If you just want to kill a deer, they're are usually plenty of doe around, and we can kill as many doe as we feel like buying tags for....  ($7 per tag)

Pre-rut is startin to kick in around here, can't wait to get out in the woods with my son this weekend.... ;D

Outdoor range sounds like a blast Redhawk. Feel free to shoot me an e-mail sometime since I am only about 1/2 hour away. I stopped in at B & R Tackle in South Bethany today and they had a camo version with a stainless fluted barrel. They is sweeeeetttt! Felt so good in my hands, now I have to get one. They had one Omega in the same color/barrel version and it was pretty nice too.

We lost our lease at the end of last year, so I don't have a farm to hunt in Maryland this year, we are still looking.  :'(
