What's a fair price?

 I have a chance to buy a Mauser action rifle in 243 Win.  The gun has been sporterized but needs to be reblued. It has a 3x9x40 simmons scope on it and a  Buelher base. The action is a GEW 98 and the serial # is 1558. Any idea what a fair price is on this  gun?

This is kinda like me asking you, "How many bushels of corn do you think I can get out of my corn field."

You have no idea how big the field is, or how many ears are on each stalk so it is impossible to provide an accurate assessment.............

I agree with rockabilly, it's very hard to determine the price/value.
Start with the cost of a 98 action for around $60, assuming it's solid, and work up from there. Barrel, scope, stock, condition, previous gunsmith work, all must be considered. If it's just a .243 bolt action you're after, remember you can get a Stevens 200 new, for around $260.
If you're buying a sporterized rifle, be sure to have a gunsmith check it out first. Don't get stuck with a dangerous bubba.
