Do not buy a Handi rifle or one of its siblings
« on: October 15, 2006, 06:47:27 AM »
Please do not buy one of these firearms.

It is horrible what they do to a person.

They are like a gateway drug.

Oh yeah I can just try it once and then leave it alone.

BUT YOU CAN'T!

Oh yes it started out innocent enough.

I picked up a Topper shotgun

Next thing I know I have a Handi Rifle in .223

Shortly after that I got one in 30-30

Then two 12 gauges

A .410

And finally a .308

BUT IT DOESN'T END THERE!

I bought a couple of the survivor stocks for them.

Then I had to see what the 12 gauge would look like and handle if I had the barrel shortened to 19" long

Then I tried different loadings for the different ammo.

Oh and shotgun ammo. DO YOU REALIZE HOW MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF SHOTGUN AMMO THERE IS OUT THERE?

I am a weak man

I dont know what to do

Hello my name is Kid Couteau

I am a Handi-holic.

I've bought 4 in the last couple of months.  Backwoodsman Magazine got me started, and after the first whiff of smoke I just couldn't stop.  I have an extra SB2 reciever now, and that means no down time.  I only have an economy car for hunting transportation and these Handis don't take up much space.  Like Ruger single action revolvers they are very addictive.

I don't have a problem as you guys seem to, I can quit any time I want, I just don't want to! Of course I just did pick up 2 nice new H&R's, a pair actually, a 12 gauge and a matching 20 gauge TDC with the beautiful checkered American Black Walnut stocks, ventilated ribs and screw in chokes. Of course it was not because of any "addiction" or problem, I really NEEDED them, really....<><.... ;D

This post belongs here.

Hello, my name is Mike and I am a Handiholic.

It’s been more than a year since my last meeting of HA (Handiholic Anonymous), commonly known as the “Annual P-Dog Shoot in Hooker, Oklahoma”, chaired by the good man, Brother Wes.

I thought I could kick the habit when I had a rifle and shotgun in every cartridge offering, but alas I was wrong.  I have since found out about multiple rifles in the favorite cartridges like the 45-70 and 38-55 (quadruples in Buffalo Classic and Twins in the Target Model).  Fellow handi-holic, Brother Quickdtoo has been tempting me in the ways of “Re-chambering” and “Re-boring”, is there no end?

I thought maybe H&R/NEF was putting some kind of infectious substance/material into these little American made guns that when you handled one, it made you buy it.  So, I had one tested by a “Center for Disease Control and Prevention” Lab, but they couldn’t find anything.  They sent it back with a note about getting me tested, but we agreed that wouldn’t do any good, because I am just a carrier and not the cause.

Another symptom is waiting for the Annual H&R/NEF Catalog to come out, and searching through it for the proof of new cartridge and configurations to go harass my gun dealer about.

I really can quit anytime too...

Thanks guys... Its good to know I am not alone....

I got started because of the Backwoodsman articles. First a 22 Hornet, then 223, 30-30, 38-55, 45-70 (x2). I decided that was enough except for the Buyers Guide ad that said "Bub, NIB Handi rifle 243cal. unfired. Syn. stock $150".  Now I have added a 243 to the family.
(Maybe the ad didn't have my name in it, but I'm sure it did.)

  You guys sure are Handiholics...

You will have to go into the 12 step program:

  1) buy a .223 Handi
  2) get a .22 hornet barrel
  3) Now is the time for a Sportster in .22 mag
  4) Need a .17HMR for the Sportster
  5) Those new shotguns with the vent ribs are nice..on an SB2
  6) Just have to have a .308 barrel for deer
  7) Yes; a .22 LR for the sportster
  8) Did you say buffalo rifle ?
  9) Camo Laminates would sure look good on that little Sportster !
  10) Busting around in the thick brush a synthetic stock, say in 30/30 would be a nice carry rifle
  11) A.44 mag barrel sure would compliment that 30/30
  12) Maybe add a 12 ga slug barrel for the brush country deer..

  There..that's the 12 step complete..

UHH Ohh ...little shaver needs his first gun..those little Versa-packs look mighty nice..

Better start on the second 12 step program....LOL

I stepped away from the handis for a while, but I am back. I jus tpurchased a handi in 7-08. Taking it to the range tomorrow. Git it used with 3 shots through it for 160. Put a bushnell banner 3x9x40 on it. Rifle season starts here this Saturday and looking forward to taking it out.  I put my new winchester model 70 in 270 in the back of the safe for now.
