Suggestions needed
« on: October 16, 2006, 04:35:50 AM »
I am looking for a air rifle for my wife. After going to the local stores she likes the lighter rifles, about 6.5 lbs but could go with one up to 7.5 lbs. I would like to get her a .22  to hunt with, but would get a .177 if the gun only comes in it. Due to our budget, about $200, I think we will be getting a springer. The gun needs to have open sights as that's what I would like her to learn with. If the gun comes with a scope great, but we can always get on later if needed. She has only shot my benjamin 392 a little and has no other experience with guns and she loved shooting the 392 except I had to pump it for her. I would like to get a accurate, powerful & quality rifle now so we won't have to get another later. I really liked the RWS 34 but it doesn't have the fiber optic sights like she llikes. She likes the feel of the Gamo Hunter Sport and the Benjamin legacy 1000, but I am looking for any suggestions you may have. By the way, she is taller than the average woman(and taller than me >:() so a full size gun fits her fine. I know this is long winded but I wanted to give as much info as possible. Thanks

Natchez Shooter's Supply has refurbished air guns on sale now. I bought a Gamo Shadow 1000 with a scope from them last year at this time and have been extremely happy with it.

Scott,

Take a look at the RWS 46E.  My wife was happy with her RWS 24 until she shot my 46 and now she thinks it is her gun.  It is easy to cock (underleaver), smooth and deadly accurate.  Powerful enough for light hunting.  She really likes the loading port. She loves the rifle, unfortunately (for me).  If your wife prefers a breakbarrel, check the RWS 94 at Sunshine Airguns (about 160 bucks for .17 - .22 no longer available).  Mine shoots an honest 940 fts and very accurate with a nice trigger and I hope my wife never wants to shoot it!  I like it better than the 34.

Cheers,

Jim
