7mm-08 hated it now i love it
« on: October 16, 2006, 06:12:16 AM »
I finally got my 7-08 shoting a pattern right on top of each other with hand loaded barnes TSX. And only took me about 8 mounths. I wish i could get a picture of the target on here. at a hundred yrds i put the second bullet on top of the first one and then the third one did the same thing. i wanted to tell ever body at the shoting range but there was nobody to tell. A barnes tsx 42.6 grains of IMR seated 50 thousands off the lands is alsome in this gun.

Congrats!! I'll be working with the 140gr TSX in my .280 Ackley Ultra as soon as the smith finishes it. Pic posting help can be found in the Blackpowder Canon and Mortar forum. ;)

Thx,

Tim

that cartridge is something of a 'sleeper'.   it may not be all that the .280 or the 7mm Mag' can be; but it's very good within its reasonable limitations.    anything that can be used on elk is a good rifle in my opinion.   and the 7mm-08 certainly is that!

glad to hear you've found success.

Quick,
What barrel did you start with to get the 280AI?
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

Handi,

As Marv said, a .280 Rem. I won't be able to shoot factory .280 ammo in it, it will be a .280 Ackley Imp-Imp since the barrel can't be set back. Wayne does this a lot for Alaskan .35 Whelen shooters, they don't want the barrel set back, they want all the powder capacity they can get. I'll probably have to load into the rifling to fire form, won't know tho unitl I check headspace, I've got a box of Nosler Custom .280AI brass to use in it.

I found that mine likes IMR 4064 I shoot a 140 Gr Barnes TSX seated .050 of the lands this made as much difference as the amount of powder i put in. I sarted loading at 41.5 gr and worked up until it started shooting good whitch was 42.5, 42.6, 42.7, 42.8 all shot 3/4 groups at a hundred. I did not go any higher and settled with 42.6 I wish i could tell you the speed but right now i don't know. I hope this helps you out.
