Here's what I wrote for our trophy book
 2006 Buck

O.K. this is the same buck I tried a spot and stalk on two weeks ago and i blew it in the last 20 yards. (Rookie) well anyhow I drove down Fri midday..The plan was to get out payroll and then just leave from the job site. This would have me getting to the farm at about 2:30 (4 1/2 hr drive) needless to say I realized I forgot my release and didn't get there till 5pm. In a mad dash, I finally got in my treestand by 5:30. As I enterd the woods I spooked a smaller buck but he just moved off slowly so I figured no harm done. At 5:45, the same 3 point came back on the same trail making his way back to the field. Shortly after a steady stream of deer made their way out of the bottom I counted 9 more by 6:30. After they had passed, I hung my bow and turned to watch them and the other deer in the field. I glassed for about 20 minutes and decided I had better get ready for prime time so I turned and quickly surveyed the area before reaching for my bow. As I looked around I noticed another stump in the shooting lane right next to the one that I marked 38 yds. I thought to myself "That's funny I don't remember two there." so I brought my binoculars up and glassed through the overhanging branches. I could just barely make out the tips of antlers. He stood there for a few moments while I slowly grabbed my bow. When he stepped into full view I new instantly that it was the same deer. He was checking the wind with every step and I thought for sure he new something was up. He started to move off angling away from my stand so I made a few soft grunts w/ my widowmaker call. This seemed to do the trick because he turned and came right back still checking the wind but moving closer he finally got to about 33yds. Turning broadside giving me the shot we all dream of. I put the pin of my High Country "Premier Pro"on the bottom half of his lungs behind the front leg and let the 100grn. Rockett sidewinder tipped Easton A/C/C fly...I heard the sound of the arrow hitting flesh and wacthed the fletching of my arrow dissapear. Soon after I lost sight of him, I heard the sound of him crashing into some brush. 5 minutes is about all I could stand before getting down to assess the shot... I found where I hit him and there was good blood imeadiately. So I backed off and went to house to retrive the flashlight i had left behind. I could have gone right after him because he was laying about 20yds from where I lost sight of him...Down the hill to the creek bottom under the fence that borders the old pasture. I am glad I went back though because I sure needed the help dragging him back up that hill he dressed out at 176 Lbs.

Hello...

That deer is a slammer!  Sounds like you had the perfect hunt, everything coming together.  Thanks for providing the details.

Cheers,
Gary
