I like to hunt with muzzleloading rifles of both types. Some would like to say we who hunt with inlines use them to compensate for our lack of hunting skills. This is the deer I killed last year with my bow at 20 yards. As a bow hunter I could say you guys use a rifle because you can't get close enough to kill with a bow. While there is no truth in this niether is there any truth in the idea that people use inlines because they are bad hunters. When I bow hunt I use a compound bow. I am not trying to do anything the way the indians did it. When I hunt whith a rifle I use an inline most of the time. I know how the mountian men did it and I am not trying to be like them. When you shoot a deer and haul it out in a pickup wearing modern clothing you are not either.

Yes there IS truth in this.

If a person hasn't killed a deer with a bow, then we'll never know if he's good enough to get that close will we?

Ramrod is correct, you missed my point.  The contest is not between you and other hunters.  It's between you and the deer.

I don't see it as a contest. I don't have anything to prove to anyone. I know my capabilities and I hunt within them. I use an inline because it is my choice. It has nothing to do with winning a "contest" or getting a leg up on the next guy or the deer. I am so sick of the sporting world and all the compitition. I will go to the woods, use the weapon of my choice and I may or may not be successful. Either way I will enjoy what I am doing.

Whatever.  Hunting feels good, and who cares to know why it feels good?  If it feels good, do it, right?

Or wait, maybe it is a contest.  You have a goal, you reach the goal - you succeed.  You don't reach the goal you don't succeed (one might say that you won or lost, but that might offend those that are sick of competition).  Just go and enjoy your sport...er...pasttime.
