I think I could get interested in the .307.  If I ever run across a .308 barrel I'm gonna do that.

Since you already have a 357 pistol you have to have a 357 carbine.  I have a 1894 and a 357 Handi shortened to 16 1/4".  I also have a 308 for when I need to reach out there, however, all the deer I've taken have been under 50 yards.  The 357 in a carbine will do a 100 yards no problem but that's with a good hunting load.  I use 158gr. XTP-FP with a max load of Lil'gun and at close range kills deer just as dead as my 308.  The 22" barrel on the Survivor 308 is a very compact rig. The only reason I cut down my 357 was to cut down a few oz. of weight and make it handle better in the brush when I'm coyote hunting.  Get the 308 and then have a 357 barrel fitted, but I bet you find after a while your leaving the 308 at home.  I thought about converting to 357 Max but I don't need the range so why bother. Nothing beats creeping through the woods with a little 357 carbine.
