Contender in 444 Marlin
« on: October 18, 2006, 11:11:26 AM »
Does anyone here have or shoot a contender chambered in 444 marlin. If so, do you reload for it or do you shoot factory loads in it. I have one coming my way.(14" 44 mag barrel reemed to 444 marlin) I've heard that the contender cannot take full power loads do to the stress on the frame. I'm hoping to find out just how much to push the 444 in the contender.

Thanks,

Duane

You didn`t say what lenth you barrel was, rifle or handgun. I`ve shot .44 mag. Contenders and don`t like them at all, and this fron a guy that don`t mind the recoil from a PD 629 with hot loads.

I had one a that was rechambered from a 44 Mag barrel. I shot factory ammo as well as reloads. I stayed on the medium range of the load data and then went for accuracy. The 444 Marlin is a hand full in the contender handgun.

I have the .444 10" rechambered from a .44 Mag. You MUST handload for it, factory loads will make a very short life for your contender frame.
