Ultra slug 12 or 20 for deer?
« on: October 19, 2006, 11:33:17 AM »
Hey guys I own both the 12 and 20 ultra slug guns and they both shoot great.  I was just curious to see what all you ultra owners will be using this year for deer the 12 or the 20 and why?   :)

I also have a 12 and a 20.....the 12 primarily for my use.....the 20 primarily for my son to use.
I could take either, but the 12 is my gun of choice.

I have complete confidence in the 12's accuracy and especially it's knock down power.
I really haven't seen what the 20 is capable of in the field.  If so, my opinion might change.
Eventhough I have shot the 20 on occassion at the range,
I still prefer the fit and feel of the 12 gauge which for me seems to translate into better accuracy.

One day I might not want to carry that heavy 12 around and may very well switch to the 20.
Let the kid carry that canon around.  But for now it's not really an issue.

The 20 imo. The extra recoil is not worth it. I have killed 90% of my deer with a bow and the hole that a 20 guage sabot puts in a deer is much larger than what my 85 grain broadheads are capable of. Since I am sure you know about shot placement since you are using a single shot, you should be fine with a 20, they have plenty of power for any whitetail on the planet. But again that is just my opinion, I am all about the best possible accuracy.
