LaserMax for a Glock 22? First time shooting again in years...
« on: October 21, 2006, 10:13:08 AM »
Are the LaserMax sighting systems worthwhile for a glock 22? I see a lot of them for sale used so I wonder if they are worth it.

I shot about 60 rounds through my Glock 22 last week. Out of the box with iron sights I was shooting low but after I figured it out I could hit just about whatever I wanted to hit. I could easily hit a man sized target at 50 yards every time and probably at 100 yards also.

I have major tendon damage to my right arm and noticed a lot of joint pain after shooting. This is the first time Ive been shooting since having my arm re attached 4 years ago so I guess Ive got some getting used to it to do. Would some kind of shooting glove help with this?

My friend brought an old German made r14 pistol and couldnt hit anything with it. It fired but unless you were five feet away you couldnt even hit something the size of a car. I didnt think it was even possible for a pistol to be that inaccurate.

I also shot a 32 cal revolver and for the most part was happy with it. No problems and it shot well.

The most fun was shooting my old Ruger 1022. I went through about 400 rounds with 4 jam ups which I think was caused by old ammo. After switching to a different kind of ammo I didnt have another jam up.

Anyway it was fun to get back to shooting after a very long absence.

That LaserMax for the Glock 22 doesn't go real far. At least the one on my Glock 22 doesn't so I put it on my 10 mm Glock 20 house gun. It may not be the one that I have.

Well,
I have found that for most people it is more of a preference as to wether or not you will like the lasermax. I bought one and installed it in my glock 27. I found that I was concentrating more on the silly little dot than I was on the target. For me, the dot became more of a distraction while shooting than a help. If you use a point shooting method when engaging targets under 20 yards then you probably won't like the device. The laser will go quite a ways but you lose accuracy over distance. I found that when I bench rested my 27, the laser was close to point of impact but not exact. Good luck with what you choose!

the two glock 22's I've had both had lasermax sights on them. Some people get them and think that it will help with accuracy. It won't you still have to use the same basic pricipals as with standard sights with the exeption of focusing on the target and not the front sight.

What I did with mine was focus on the spicific spot on the target I wanted to hit and when the laser dot crossed that spot squeeze the trigger.

A while ago I watched a guy at the range with a laser.  He couldn't hit the target at 10 yards, and watching the laser showed how he was pulling the gun off target with his trigger technique.  I showed him about finger position on the trigger, and we talked about proper grip and things improved for him.  I am beginning to think lasers could be an asset for training shooters.

If I could do it all over again, I would get the crimson trace unit for my glock.  My lasermax would sometimes turn itself off while I was shooting or stop flashing and just emit a steady beam.  Also, the crimson trace is activated by simply gripping the pistol as usual, which I think is a big advantage.

I cannot address the Laser Max but all the Crimson Trace Lasers I've tried have been excellent and they do make one for the Glocks. I'd give that a try if you want a laser. For sure on short barrel guns I've more accurate with the laser than the sights.
