My new Encore range results
« on: October 22, 2006, 03:19:59 AM »
Well I finally got to take my Encore to the range.  I started out using 777 primers, 777 pellets and shockwave 250grn bullets.  It only took about 5 shots to get the scope set.  I then fired a group using 2 777 50grn pellets.  I swabbed between each shot with one patch with (rusty duck) solvent and then a dry patch.  The first group measured just under 2".  There was also a considerable tail wind.  I then tried a group with 3 777 pellts.  This group measured 1.5" and about 2" higher than the first group.  ;D  I will have to say that I am quite satisfied with this gun.  The next range session I will go to the 200 yard mark.

Sighting-in doesn't come any easier than that!  :D

The 200 yard range may not come so easy. If good shot groups allude you at 200, try a couple of things. You may need to tweak your powder charge by including a 30 gr pellet. Lots of success stories using three pellets (150) with Pyrodex/Shockwave, but not as many using 777 @ 200. You may also think about bringing a pack of those bridge bases sold at Precision Bullet or Cabelas. If you can't find those, buy a pack of 54 caliber lubed wonderwads. I find the bigger diameter wad seals better in 50 caliber bores.

Good to hear you had a good time and your Encore shot well.
