Simmons, Weaver, or Swift
« on: October 22, 2006, 05:50:00 AM »
Thinking of installing a 2x6 or 2.5x7 scope on my 14" 7X30 Contender. Between Simmons, Weaver, and Swift which, based on anyone's experience, would be the better choice. I really don't want to spend $450+ for a Leupold, won't buy another Burris, and wasn't wild about the Bushnell 2x6 that I previously owned. Maybe a Nikon, so any thoughts on it as well would be appreciated.

I like Swift.  My 2x was very cheap, and has been very reliable on a range of calibers from .30-30 and .35 rem to .22lr.  I also have a Burris 3x-9x, and I prefer the Swift.  It's quick to pickup and pretty light on the barrel as well.

From your list, I'd pick the Weaver.

I'd also recommend the Weaver.  However, if you can find one, the older Simmons Gold Medal pistol scopes are very good deals for the money.  I have used a few of them without fail, but have found the Weavers to have slightly better glass.  I have no experience with the Swift line, so I really cannot comment.

I have a Swift and a K6 Weaver...I like the K6 better, but both are good scopes.

Swift premier scopes are pretty nice and have a great warranty.
But I am a big fan of Weaver. Just good glass, solid scopes, and great prices.
Weaver.

I really like the Swift Premier line of scopes  They've  just came out with a new phase coating.  I'm waiting to hear reviews on them.  31 bertram

I appreciate the input so far. Seems about even between Weaver & Swift. Interesting that nobody commented on Nikon. I've never owned a Nikon, but don't recall hearing negative comments about them. They are more expensive than the others though. Guess I'm probably leaning towards the Weaver at this point.

If you can find a store where you can look through them side by side, I believe you will choose the Nikon.  ;D
