What items would you like to see gun shops keep in stock?

In my area reloading supplies are hard to come by. What would you like to see the gun shops stocking on their shelves?

With respect to reloading, my primary interest in powder and primers.  My local store (if you can call 28 miles away local) has some bullets, but there are so many brands, calibers, and bullet weights he's unlikely to carry what I'm interested in.  I order most of that from Cabela's, Midway, or Midsouth.  I don't order powder or primers 'cause of the hazmat shipping charges.  Funny how they don't charge hazmat fees on ammunition, seeing how it contains powder and primers.

Otherwise, I'd like to see them carry some lefty guns.  I've never bought a gun off the shelf and it would be nice to try a lefty gun out for fit and feel before ordering it for a change.

I'd like to see at least one shop in my area carry milsurp powder.  2 pounds for the price of one and I shoot a heck of a lot of handgun rounds, so it makes the economics work better.

Seeing big boxes of cast bullets on the shelf would be nice, too.  Again, it's all about the cost.

Definately powder and primers.  All but one of our llocal shops are either out of business or have stopped selling reloading components.  What does that say about our neighborhood?  I can't single-handedly purchase enough components to make it profitable for them.  So they stopped selling components.

The one local shop still selling powder and primers charges slightly more per item but it is a deep discount as a distributed Hazmat fee.  Their volume of wholesale purchase and retail sale is astronimically large compared to my one direct shipment retail order so the local shop is better positioned to pass along a distributed Hazmat fee and it is still a "savings" to me.

I have direct shipped once when purchasing powder for three people at a time.  The Hazmat fee was distributed equally to each.  We bought large bulk quantities too.  Still, that price per individual was a lot higher than the local store for the same items - when and if in stock.  For some components, the local store just does not have enough demand, so they don't carry everything.

It sucks when the political agenda of the shipper puts its hand into our pockets.  At least that's the way that I see it.

Real black powder is a hard one, in most areas, it has to be stocked in a special safe.

The gun shops i frequent seem to be always running out of clays.  The last time that we went in, we got a discount on the last ones, which were the ones in the back which had "fallen off the shelf."

Same here - Powder and Primers.

PS: Old military bolt action rifles would be icing-on-the-cake!

Sadly, there is not one gun shop in Lawton, OK.  Just a bunch of rip-off pawn shops who prey on FT. Sill soldiers.  Gibson's had some reloading supplies but they closed a couple of years ago.  Buy my primers and powder from Bass Pro Shops in OK City and get the bullets from Grafs, Midway or Cabela's.

Lawton, OK sounds like an opportunity for the right FFL Entrepreneur.  Perhaps Hardware with hunting and fishing sections?

Everyone WANTS a completely stocked Gunshop in their community, however when reality sets in and the actual cost of stocking a gunshop with some of all of the guns out their and then a sellection of ammo for the most popular well used calibers, various brands/by weight/and cal. bullets powders, primers, and then dont forget the optics, leather, and accories, you have tied up a bunch of money in Inventory that needs to be INSURED against the occasional help yourself shopper, as the days go by and everyone wants to fondle the product then go on line somewhere and buy it used and leave you with the NEW one, will complain when the store closes up and takes their inventory out of the town.  Been there and done that B-4   JIM
