.308 Remmy 750 Jamming
« on: October 22, 2006, 10:31:18 AM »
Yes I still get the occasional jam with my reloads after all my efforts. I have decided to use Remmy ammo on my deer hunt this fall and I'll go up to the 180 gr. bullet instead of the 150 gr. Stumpsitter seems to have found this to be the right stuff.

I had better performance with the Remmy 180 gr. ammo. One jam in ten rounds. And this was with three in the mag and one in the pipe. The Remmy ammo is at the low end of C.O.L.( 2.70 inches) and I have to wonder if this is why it works better. Good accuracy with a little more recoil. This settles what I will be using for deer hunting in November. I wish Remington offered a mag that fits the .308 for length better. At 2.70 inches C.O.L. they have so much longitudinal slop. Anyone ever modify the mag to use up some of this clearance.

Maybe Remington would sell you a new magazine?  Also have you sent the gun back to them yet? Might not help, but... just to let you know I bought a Benelli R1 in 30-06 a few years ago, it's gone as it grouped inconsestently due to barrel nut tension issues. When you get them right they will shoot into a very good group, but if the tension on the forearm changes.....good luck with you 750 I hope it works out for you, pretty gun I was hoping to get one....but...

I think part of my problem is the C.O.L.. I have been using a length 0.100 longer than Remmy factory fodder. But boy-o-boy there is allot of axial room in the mag--------- ------maybe enough to cause stack instability. Do you have any thoughts on this??

McLernon,

I am having the same problems with my 750 35W carbine.  Every three rounds or so it jams.  I've tried different brands of ammo, grinding down the scope mount screws, synthetic lubricants, a custom 35 W small base die, etc. and it still jams.  This gun is not reliable and will not go to Maine with me 11/1.

I have 20 + Remington guns and I have always been a fan of Remington products.  I am VERY DISSAPOINTED in this gun/product.  I haven't heard anyone who is not having issues with the 750 jamming.

Where I hunt (in Maine) you may get one shot at a decent buck (if you are lucky) a season.  Often this shot is at a running deer.  In theory, this 750 would be the ultimate rifle for me.  In reality, I may as well carry a single shot.

AGAIN, I AM VERY FRUSTRATED WITH THIS GUN AND REMINGTON.  IT WILL BE GOING BACK TO THE FACTORY!!

Kimber fan,

Have u tried to dry as possible everything inside of chamber? Or not improper of putting bullet in the mag, try put bullet middle of mag, not against the wall inside of mag do u know what im talking about? You gotta try different way to get know your rifle very well and find your rifle's weak spot.  If still have a problem, i suggest u send ur rifle to gunsmith. I owned Remington Model 750 carbine in .308 win. That rifle was jammed often, now its dont anymore.

What type bullets are you guys using , as i was talking with some 35 whelen owners and all rifles are different in that some will shoot both SP and RN while some will prefer one over the other  . I bought a new 750 in 35 Whelen in the spring which i will be using this tear. I have not yet been able to test any of my reloads yet so i am using remington factory express 250 grain PSP . I have gone through 7 boxes of these with out any problems  and i also tried one box of the 200 grainers .  So far so good i just love this rifle and think it is of top quality.

I have tried 150 Gr. Hornady Interbonds and 180 Gr. Nosler Accubonds. Using Imr powders. I DONOT know the proper C.O.L. that I should be using in a semi. Factory fodder measures 2.7 inches but I have been using the recommended lengths of 2.810 to 2.875 iches. Maybe this is oart of the problem. Any thoughts????????

I bought a 750 Carbine in .35 Whelen last summer, and found it jammed on every shot when I used Remington factory ammo.  I switched to my handloads, and it only jammed every other shot. :(  I took it back to the store and they sent it to the factory for adjustment.  After about 3 months I got a call from the store, and they gave me the word that Remington was unable to correct the problem, and they refunded my money.

I was very disappointed with this as well, since I love hunting with autos, and Remingtons have a better "feel" than Brownings.  I ended up doing most of my deer hunting with my BLR, and carried a BAR in .308 a few times.
Hunting is Exciting!  Bolt actions are BORING!!
Don't mix the two!
