Hornady 180gr SP-SSP
« on: October 22, 2006, 01:41:41 PM »
Can anyone shed some light on seating the Hornady 180 gr SP-SSP in a 357 max.  I ask RCBS and they offered to make new seaters for a fee but did send two other plugs they thought would help but they just mark the bullet with a ring that don't look so nice. Thanks

I robbed the seater from a ruined 30-06 die set. Now I just swap back and forth depending on the bullet.

I have RCBS 30.06 dies bud didn't think of that .  I saw some place online that a guy took and turned the seater upside down after he sprayed it with silicone for a release agent and then put epoxy into the seater ontop of the plug and then stuck the bullet into the epoxy and let it set up.  Said that it worked slick!!!

If the seater that marks your bullet works ok otherwise, just remove it from the die and polish it inside with a Dremel.  It probably just has a sharp edge that's marking the bullet.

Thanks for the info Ron F, I can do all that.  It was just leaving that ugly ring on the bullet where it made contact, probably wouldn't have any effect on the projectile but it sure didn't look very nice.   Thanks again.
