                    Congratulations;
Thats a nice deer! I think I see snow on the ground and I'm wondering if you would share with us where it is you hunted? Also, is that a Browning BLR?

Yes, it is a Browning BLR in 257 Roberts. I also have BLRs in 308 and 358, but the Roberts seems to be my favorite. Took both my antelope this year with it too.

Hunting in central Montana, mostly on north slope of Little Belt Mountains.

Day 2: Two more lever kills. Both young whitetails. Both at about 90 yds. (I'm really beginning to like this Browning!!) The other two are a whitetail and muly taken by my buddy with his Handi 270.
Button buck taken at about 90 yds.

Young doe, probably above's sister. they were traveling together.

It was a good day.

Question?   Did you say awhile back you had proprerty in or around Slanesville, W Va?
If it`s yes. i know the area well. Hunted around there for 25 years.
If not, didn`t hurt to ask.

And backstraps.... ;D

BTW....  I bow hunted for Mulies last year near Hinsdale, and given how may times I had slickheads bust my stalks, I personally think they need to be thinned out..... ::)

I am right out side Of Romney, on the west side. I don't know where Slanesville is but I have heard of it. Also is that where they found a couple of CWD deer?

"found a couple of CWD deer?"............yes it is.
The W Va DNR site has information about that if your interested. In fact, you can sign
up for their "message" service while your there. I have it and it gives me all the current
hunting/fishing information as it happens, regs, fees, the whole 9 yards.
My area was on the east side of Romney.  If you know where the Mountain Top
restaurant is (East side coming into Romney on Rt 50) turn right and go to Points.
Started there in the early 50`s, when it was really good.
Killed many a buck over the years, some really nice in body size and rack size.
Have many friends who live around Romney....... great people.
I`ll be in W Va to hunt deer Thanksgiving week and the following week.
    Good luck to you.

I know Hinsdale well. I've hunted mulies on the hill south of town several times. And whitetails on the Milk River (Christenson spread).

Well, that's exactly where I was hunting.  Just south of town.  We headed up (I think it was bench rd) out of town there.  Saw some nice bucks, at least bucks that woulda made a nice bow kill....  I was able to get into bow range just about every day I was out there, even came to full draw on a 3x3 at 8 yds before changing my mind, and waiting for a bigger deer.  I did stalk within 25 yds of a pretty nice 4x4, but luck, and mebbe nerves  ;) kept me from closing the deal.

I was hunting with a guide from Milk River outfitter's named Dave Jones.  He really knew a lot about mulies, and how to get on them with a bow.  I feel like I learned alot from him...  I've never had more fun hunting than I did on this trip, anyone that has ever hunted only for whitetails in the Midwest, needs to do a hunt like this.  Beautiful country, and some of the most exciting hunting I've ever done.  I'd move out there in a heartbeat, but my wife thinks it'd be too cold in the winter.... ::)  Don't know if you are familiar with anyone from that outfit, but Eric, the owner is a really nice guy, and his Dad was a hoot.  His dad also had some of the nicest Mulie mounts I've ever seen....

I'm now workin on doing a rifle hunt in Wyoming, Idaho, or Montana for 07' or 08'... Just depends on how soon I can get some details worked out.  Mebbe try & take one with my 1874 C. Sharps......  This time I wanna do it without the guide, as I really prefer do try & do things on my own, and the guided rifle hunts just seem to be, "there's yer mulie, shoot him" kind of hunts.  Mebbe not, but after chasin them with a bow, I coulda killed a nice 4x4 or better everyday of the hunt, even with my hawken...  Although, they prolly start to act quite a bit different as soon as people start shootin at them...... ::)

We have such a heavy deer population each hunter is allowed up to 7 anterless (slick heads) tags this year, in addition to the regular A tag. And all these anterless deer are coming off the alfalfa and grain fields. There are tender and taste great.
