Soliciting suggestions for custom gun
« on: April 17, 2003, 01:13:57 PM »
I have been looking at the TC for years and finally decided to jump in.  My initial purchase will be used for deer this fall and I am thinking .25-06.  Having read much of the forum I am thinking the best thing would be to just slurge for a custom barrel and laminate stock up front.  I am looking for suggestions on where to go to order such a gun with the best insurance that it will be an accurate shooter.  Any other suggestions are welcome also.

:D Great to have you, in the club.
I would suggest a Bullbery or virgin valley barrel and one of their stock sets. I shoot a .280 AI in a 28" bull by virgin valley. I also have a laminated stock by Boyds. With a pillar bedded and floated forearm I get 1/2" groups and 3200 fps out of a 140 nosler Partition. It is devastating on deer. I also have a .25-06 AI in a Fox ridge barrel a find with the 120 Nosler it to is great if the range is under 300. I am in the process of replacing my 26" 209x50 barrel with a custom 30" barrel to burn 150 grains of 777. Hope this helps. :-)

If you want a 25-06, I would suggest buying a factory frame and barrel unless you just want something custom.  All my Encore and Contender stuff is plain old factory flavor and it shoots fine and comes with a much lower price tag and lead time.

:D Peecay,
If you go custom I would do it soon.  You are probably looking at least 12-14 weeks for a custom barrel and or frame.  I have a complete rifle in 270 Win ordered from VVCG at the moment.  I waited for  years it seems before deciding to get an Encore.  When I did decide I wanted something special so thats why I chose to order from VVCG.  Not cheap but I am sure I will be very happy.  Good luck on your quest!  Let us know what you decide on. :P

Thanks for the help so far.  I was mostly concerned by what I was reading about bad barrels from TC.  Is this just an occasional thing?  Reading various sites makes it seem kinda frequent.  Of course who makes a big fuss about a barrel that performs up to your expectations?
I do hope to decide what to order by next week.
I will keep my eye on this forum although not this weekend as Qwest has fouled my home dialup account.  I will check back in Monday.
Thanks again for the help.
