Remington 6.8 SPC

Has anyone here seen one of these rifles yet? I'm curious if they have an all new size bolt face and extractor, or do they use a standard size bolt with some sort of change to make it work?

I thought the 6.8 was built on the 223 platform to retain the M16 rifle? If not how was it to be deployed.. Perhaps its built of the case head of the 7.62x39.. Wouldn't that be interesting. The russians move to the 224 bore to 'catch up' with us and we move back toward the russian 30 short..

It's a shortened 30 Remington case. Same size as a 30-30 if you turned off the rim. It'll fit in an AR-15 with just a bolt, barrel, and mag change. According to Remington they make one model of 700 and a couple model 7's in this caliber. I doubt it's too popular yet in bolt guns, though lots of AR shooters seem to like it. The reason I'm interested in it is you can make rimless 30 Herrett cases out of the SPC brass, and it ought to make a pretty good cast bullet round for bolt guns.

Why a rimless 30Herrit? The contenders love the rimmed rounds just fine. Just curious.. The 30 Remington's a bit smaller than a standard casehead but real close.. Wonder if Remington cuts a special bolt face diameter for it?

For bolt guns. The regular Herrett would work better in a Contender. I want a rimless version for cast bullet shooting, something about the same capacity as a 30 BR. Why? Well, Herrett dies are cheaper than 30BR dies and it's something different. Plus it would work in an AR15 if anybody wanted to do a small 30 cal in one with more punch than a 300 Whisper.
