Me 1 six point, 1 doe/ Bro. 1 Spike!
« on: October 26, 2006, 05:26:58 AM »
Man I really love this Knight Disc Elite rifle. I killed two deer Saturday with it using 250 Barnes Expanders. It was the last day of our (3day) buck or doe early muzzle-loader season then it's doe only until 10/28.
My Brother and I left for our eastern shore lease on Friday after the rain ended. We got there at about 3:00pm and rushed to our stands but neither of saw any deer that evening, probably due to the heavy winds. We headed to back out to our stands well before sunrise Saturday and the weather was perfect (Calm and Chilly). I set up 4 scent wicks doused with Doe Estrous Urine along my main shooting lane, one at about 90 yards and another every 20 yards all the way back to my stand. At first light I started giving a couple soft doe grunts and low and behold I spotted a deer coming down the trail heading towards wy scent wicks. He was a spike and I decided since it was so early I'd wait for a better buck. and I watched him walk from about 300 yards all the way to the second wick (about sixty yards from me) sniffing the air and the two wicks like I couldn't believe. When he got to the second wick he turned and headed off into the thick stuff, I guess he new it was a ploy by this time or maybe he winded me.
But about a half hour later I saw the same scenario replay again at first I thought it was him coming back for another wiff. But when this deer got to about 100 yards I noticed he had a better rack (small six but better) and I decided he was going home with me. Just before he put his nose to the first scent wick at 90 yards. I put the cross hairs of my Mueller Multi Shot on his left chest (quartering towards) and squeezed one off. When the smoke cleared he was gone but I had total faith in my Knight because I know how well it shoots.
I waited about an hour and walked to the shot spot and he was a few feet to my left behind a deadfall, he just made one leap off the main trail and he was done..... (No Exit but I never found the bullet it must have been in the guts.)
While I was gutting him out I heard a shot pretty close by, I new it had to be my brother. It was him, he shot a spike maybe the same one I let walk, I'm not sure but i looked like him.
That same evening we went back out and just before dark I spotted a small doe coming through. She was about 75 yards broadside and I hit her just behind the right front shoulder, she fell in her tracks. (pass through)
Two deer (and could have been three) on my second day in the woods this year. Man, maybe I should go play the lottery.

Great hunt story! Congratulations. I am envious.
That is some good shooting.
You are fortunate to go hunting with your brother. It is weird, I have four brothers and none of them has ever been hunting.
I have had some good hunting buddies, but that would be great to hunt with your brother.
Aim small don't miss.

Congrats on the deer, I wish I still had my lease in Maryland.

Thanks for the kind comments on my shooting skills simonkenton. I try to be as proficient as I possibly can with all of my weapons. We owe it to the animals we take with them. I know good shooting has a lot to with practice but I think it moreso involves being totally confident in your weapon. I'm totaly confident in that Knight. If your a decent shot at the range and your totally confident in your weapon you will make all your shots because you know exacly what shots you will make and the ones you will not make.
Yes, it's great to have a brother that loves hunting and shooting as much as myself. My pops started taking us Squirell and Rabbit hunting when I was like 7 and my Bro was about 10. Dad is a carrer military man so he showed us the great outdoors every chance he got. Once my Brother got his drivers license Dad bought us both a rifle and a shotgun and me and Bro would go hunting every day after school. Now I'm 32 and Bro is 35 and were best friends and always hunt together every chance we get. Dad don't go to much anymore but he still makes it down for the first couple days of deer firearms season. He also hits those game preserves every now and then.

Redhawk1, I'm sorry to hear about your Maryland lease. Private huning is getting very hard to find in Maryland nowadays. I hope you find some by firearms season. I would invite you down to our property but I don't have that authority. Me and Bro are just club members and it took us a long time to get in....

marylandeer, I hope I find something also. But I did buy 20 Acres in West Virginia to hunt on and build a house on. I have already gone turkey hunting there and seen several bucks and doe's. I can't wait for gun season to start there.
