p345 thoughts

Well I have been thinking of buying a 45 for sometime now. I finally got to hold one yesterday and hmm I like it. It felt good in my hand I like the rough grip that I had heard about I also like the indetions on the left grip felt like I would get a good hold on it. I have smaller hands and it felt nice. I am wondering what those of you who own or have shot one think. It seems like a deal. I am wondering what sort of accuracy I could expect. I know rugers are thought of utility tools and ugly to the 1911 crowd just wondering how this might compare accuracy wise. This gun is the first in a long time to make me smile when I held it uh oh I may be in love.

I don't have thousands of rounds through mine, but I have never had a problem with it. I, too, have smaller hands and the gun fits really well. I have not had any problems at all with it with ball or hollowpoint ammo. It's like the rest of my Rugers, not the prettiest but dead reliable with any ammo. Accuracy is not bad, either. I like to shoot my 1911's more, but the Ruger gets its share fo time.

Well I had looked at the rock island arms and the new taurus. I have a friend that thinks it has to be a kimber. He has told me I should buy a custom rather than having to put alot of money in one. I am just thinking that I can buy a Ruger which every one seems pleased with and be done. Yeah I will be showing up with a Handi ultra rifle and a ruger P345 next to his high dollar custom ????? and his tricked out kimber. I have never found a gun that I could shoot better than. I am pretty sure the P345 is no different. I have alot of things going on right now moving, atv in the shop and Christmas coming up but have an idea once everything plains out this may be my next purchase

I've had a P345PR (safety model) for a little over a year. I'm not sure how many rounds I've put through it, but it must be over 500. I'm a big fan of Ruger products, and the P345 is (for me) the most comfortable, and accurate .45 ACP I've had the pleasure to fire.  I usually shoot the cheap stuff (Wolf/WalMart Winchester white box) but, with two exceptions, I haven't had a single failure to feed, fire, and extract.  The two exceptions were caused by the safety lever being slightly pushed down (away from the full-up "fire" position).  The P345 saftey requires very little movement, compared to other Ruger P-Series pistols, to disable the action. In addition, the safety is held in the fire position by spring pressure only--no positive detent of any kind.

If you are looking for a .45 ACP plinker or even something for informal competition, the P345 would be a excellent choice.  If the P345 is to serve a primary role as a defensive pistol I cannot recommend it.

Except for the design of the safety, I would give the P345 my unqualified endorsement.  Because of it, I'm selling my P345 and will use the proceeds to buy a KP90D.  I haven't seen any mention of this issue elsewhere, so it may only be an issue for me.

I have one got about 150 rounds through it with out one problem! It accurate and is my primary CCW. I traded my P90 in to get this one, the P90 was a great weapon but it was bulky to CCW with.
That's the main reason on getting the P345 as it is slim ,fits  my hand, weight's less and shoots just as good-for me better then the P90! And it 's a Ruger! $375 out the door you can't beat that! ;D
