Self defense training. How?
« on: October 26, 2006, 09:26:35 AM »
I just cringe when somebody says they want to buy a gun for self defense without intending to get properly trained. How can we promote the education of people in self defense without compromising our rights or otherwise giviing bargaining chips to the Democrat party and other anti-gun organizations?

I just had this happen the other day and I suggested, as always, to find a good self defense class first, then worry about whether a gun is needed.

Questar, I would like to know the answer you got from the person you told?
 Thank you Marv.

Kind of a deer-in-the-headlights look. It was the first time they were confronted with the notion.

Make it a law that someone who shoots another person unjustifiably and who hasn't gone through a training course gets the boom lowered on them.

If the shooting is justifiable, then hey, good job, gun owner. You did it right.

If the shooting is not justifiable, then the question is, did the gun owner do what was reasonably prudent to ensure that such a mistake was not made? If the answer is "no", then this is a person I sure wouldn't want to defend.

With gun ownership, especially for personal protection, comes responsibility to use the tool wisely. If one doesn't, then you take the consequences. Why should we want to defend a person who has done something horribly wrong just because he is a gun owner? That makes no sense.
