Self defense: Bears vs. Criminals
« on: October 26, 2006, 09:32:10 AM »
I was reading a gun mag. last night and saw the ad for Kimber's new pepper spray gun that they advertise with their 1911s. It occurred to me that in a confrontation with a bear I'd rather have pepper spray because the statistics are on my side. But in the case of an attack by a criminal I'd probably be much better off with a gun. Are the stats on my side there as well?  The reason for my thinking is that a handgun bullet is designed for man-size assailants, not bear-size assailants.

What about bare criminals? Where do they fit in the picture?

If pepper spray can stop a bear, do you think it would have much trouble stopping a human? Besides, if someone wants my wallet and is threatening me with a gun, well, "here ya go, have the wallet". Ain't no amount of money worth losing my life over.

Having been certified with OC spray I can tell you not all humans are affected by it.  On the other hand I was horribly affected for almost an hour.

..... OC spray I can tell you not all humans are affected by it.  .....

In addition, I've heard some bears have been found to develop a taste for OC Spray on their dinner.

They probably like it when their main course comes with it's own seasoning!

I can see it now: Two bears go into a bears-only restaurant. The waiter asks: Do you want yours regular or cajun?

LOL - What a dumb waiter!

It's common knowledge all brown bears prefer cajun super hot and black's, not to be out done, always order the CSH and then water it down with OC pepper!

And I thought this thread was going to follow the "Gladiator" route with criminals being fed to bears in the Circus Maximus.

Personally, I'm all in favor of that solution; so many criminals, so many hungry bears ...

Sounds like a match made in heaven to me. And think of the Pay-Per-View revenue!

Now if anything could strike terror into the heart of a criminal, that would be it. Imagine living in a prison where springtime means "fattening up time" for bears with no obvious food supply and they're all convergin on your prison!!!
