The link to California Black Bear take is
http://www.dfg.ca.gov/hunting/bear/harvest/index.htmlThe season will close after the F&G receives 1700 tags or December 31, 2006. The take as of October 2, 2006 was 688. Either hunting has been extremely slow or another example of the F&G being unable to fulfill their responsibilities to enter the data.
The deer season has closed in many California Zones. Except for a few days hunters had shirtsleeve temperatures during the day. And very little moisture, which made for poor hunting weather.
I did see a small bear track while deer hunting. Because it was on a traveled dirt road I would say it was less the 12-hours old. In other areas the bear scat was rather old.
