comanche revolver
« on: April 17, 2003, 07:43:02 PM »
I am looking for a good .357 with a 4 or 6 inch barrel.  I found a revolver called the firestorm comanche that is imported from spain.  The revolver is on sale at my local gun store for about $200 new!  My question is, are these revolvers reliable and accurate or would I be better off spending a little more on a used colt, s&w or ruger?

Back in the 80's the Spanish company named Llama produced a revolver named the Comanche. It received mixed reviews, but most agreed it delivered good performance. Most models (they had .22's, .357's, and .44 mags) were discontinued in the 90's.
I personally would look for a revolver with a little better history. Don't just pass by a Dan Wesson either, while it's not as common as the Colts, Smith's, or Rugers,  they are some nice handguns. The Taurus revolvers have come along way also.

I don't recall every hearing anything positive about the Comanche revolvers, either 357 or 44's. What I remember about them is having average accuracy but serious durability problems, going out of time in only a few hundred rounds.

If $200 is your budget I'd say save your money a little longer and get a Ruger Security Six for $250. You won't be disapointed with the Ruger.

Thank you for saving me from buying a piece of junk.  There is a gun show coming up in about a week and I plan on going and looking for something in the $250 - $275 range with a 4 - 6 inch barrel.  What good used models will I find in this range?  Thanks in advance.

You should be able to find a Ruger Security Six or Speed Six in that range. They're the same gun except the Security Six has adjustable sights the Speed Six has fixed sights.

You might be able to find a M19 S&W for that, they're also fine guns - usually more than that in this area but you might find one. Or a M28 S&W, N frame 357, very nice guns but since it's the large N frame might be bigger than you're looking for.

 Well I went to the gun show and found a great deal on a taurus .357.  I was skeptical at first since I have heard some real horror stories about taurus, however I bought it anyway as the price was right.  When I took it out and shot it I was pleasently shocked, it is the most accurate handgun I have ever shot with the possible exception of a colt python, the feal is also great and overall it is an extremely well made firearm.  Thanks for the help everyone
