I'm thinking of taking 2" off of the lentgh of my .338, from 26 to 24, does anyone have any thoughts on this, will it compramise the effectivness of this caliber.

Expect 40 to 60 f.p.s. lost with every inch removed from the barrel, you should not see much lose of accuracy as long as the crown was properly recut.
Your groups will open up slightly but still good for hunting accuracy.
