How can I tell if a 94 Winchester is pre 64?

  Serial # is the key.  If you stay under .........2 million, you should/will be in good shape.

Take a look at this site http://www.savage99.com/winchester1894_dates.htm Enter your serial #, it will tell you whether or not it was Pre-64, and when it was manufactured.

the last serial number for a pre 64 model 94 is 2700000 . any number after that is post 64 .

The quick and easy way is to look on the left side of the receiver at the top screw, pre 64 will be smaller than the post 64's. It is various obvious in difference.
