Did some hog hunting last weekend - pictures
« on: April 18, 2003, 04:01:57 AM »
This will be my first attempt at picture posting, so bear with me.  I hunted hogs last weekend with a hunting buddy in the Texas Hill Country.  Following are some of the results:

Early in the hunt I shot a nice blackbuck doe, later that day I got a couple nice eating size boars, and the last day my buddy Mike shot this nice boar and I got the smaller sow:

Just for grins, here's a mount I had done of a nice boar I killed in May of 2001:

I hope you all enjoy.  BTW, don't ask for the story now, I'm writing one to published in IronKnees' e-zine.

Mark, I shot the blackbuck in my taxidermist's back yard near Medina, TX.  He has only 80 acres with a run-down barb wire cattle fence, so they're not often on his property, but they do cruise through every once in a while.  I just lucked out.  This year was the third year I've hunted with him and this was my first blackbuck there.  He's not really commercial, though he has been looking to get a few more solid, trustworthy hunters.  He does mostly taxidermy, but has started offering a few hog hunts, mostly I think because he likes to hunt pigs!

There was a little buck (ear-length) with this herd of does (about a dozen), but I saw nothing shootable.  Besides, at $600, the bucks are out of my league.  Honestly, he's mostly set up for hogs, but "leftover" blackbuck and axis from surrounding properties occasionally wander through.  We bumped into both on this trip, but only had an opportunity at the blackbuck.

Drop me an email at dtwiebe@yahoo.com if you have any other questions.

I just love pictures! :-D  :-D  :-D
The only bad thing is that now I want to go hog hunting rather than working in this hectic office! :)
