I have the Browning bases and high rings on mine but for my Tasco 3X9 the rings are to high IMO. I think when I take the scope off and have a trigger job done I will go back with either low or med rings. I may also get a better scope but it wont be anything with a large obj. so I should still be able to go lower than I am now. How large is the obj. on the 12X. I'm thinking you may have to use High rings.

Does anyone know what brand of ring will fit the stock bases that come on the 1885?   Thanks Jim

Standard Leupold, Redfield and Burris rings with the dovetail front and opposed rear clamp screws fit. I prefer the Burris Signature rings with the
spherical bushings because they do not scratch your scope.

Burris Signature rings with the plastic inserts. Then if you need some extra help with adjustments you can buy the off set inserts and get it.

Oh yeah one of my two LWs required it. Don't recall which of them but one sure did. So did the HW BPCR when I mounted a scope for testing.

I too have the low wall 22 Hornet. I used the above setup, Burris signature rings and bases.
