Bullet selection for 6.5x55
« on: October 29, 2006, 04:07:32 AM »
HI, I'm new to this and I'm looking for bullet recommendations for a 6.5x55 in 15" encore.  I mostly hunt for whitetail (under 200 yds).  I hear the 120 grs are popular-maybe something like the Nosler BT?  Are the various 140s to "hard" for the encore velocities?  I'm also thinking about trying black bear this year. Is this round "too light" for bear from an encore?  Anyone who has experience or thoughts they care to share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have an Encore pistol with a 12" barrel. I have yet to take a deer with it. The gun shoots 120 grain sierra games kings the best, very accurate and probably good enough for deer. A maximum charge of  RL-15 works well. Hornady 129 grain SST is also accurate. I have shot 140 and 160 grain bullets in my pistol but the recoil increased substantially.

120 NBT's will work great on deer.
Never hunted bear, so I don't have a clue, but a partition or an "X" should do the job.
