Have read that these are being discontinued, already.  True or false?

Remington still lists them on the website but I'm told they are not listed in the new catalog. I picked one up Saturday in .350 mag. just in case! ( I missed out on the 600 - 660 series been sorry ever since)

When I buy one it will be for the same reason. MIKE.

I have one waiting for me to pay it off at the gunshop.  By the end of the month it will be home.

I got the 6.5mm Mag on hold.

So, got a used, as in not used or fired,  maybe one mark on the trigger guard,  673 in .350 Mag for $550,  with Leupold bases.   No box,  but this is pristine.   These are nice rifles, have an "African" or "field gun" feel to them,  with the shallow pistol grip,  very easy to acquire iron sights.   The rib is very well done,  and while it is  like tassels on great boobs (in other words, not needed),  I kinda like it.

I have no idea what their sales are like, but it'd be a shame if they discontinue the 673.  I like the look of it and tried one on for size at a dealer's.  If it came in a lefty version I'd have bought one.  I like the .350 mag caliber too.  Big cross-sectional area but not a real hard kicker as magnums go (I did the math: some of the .30 caliber magnums have more recoil).

My sources tell me that the Remington 673 will no longer be in production.

So yes, the model 673 is being discontinued.

Got my l'il friend about a week ago.   VERY nice rifle,  superb handling qualities,  and detail.   Sad, if these fizzle out twice in my lifetime.

Considering the deep discounts that were being offered to rid the inventory, one could guess that the 673 didn't live up to sales expectations.  I think that anyone who may have really wanted a 673, got one in the first two years.  Deja Vu all over again, since this is almost exactly the same thing that happened to the 660.

I can't speak for Remington, but I doubt that Remington will ever offer this retro-configuration again.

It seems,  in retrospect, the 673 was not such a great idea.  Way too much of a "niche" rifle.    40 years ago,  the 600 and 660 were really something different,  light, handy, and potent.   The world already had that in the Model  7.   Should have just introed the Model 7 CDL in the .350 and 6.5 Mag chamberings,  and saved a bunch of start up money.
However, am glad they made it,  as I have one,  and it ain't going anywhere,  except the woods.

338xcr,

What caliber did you get?

I got a 6.5 mag so far.  I have dibs on a .308 if I want it.  I have to make up my mind by the end of next week whether I want the 308 or not.  I have been going nuts trying to find empty brass for the 6.5.

Those are the only two calibers that interest me.  I dont want a 350 mag, and I certainly dont need a 300 SAUM.

I hear there was a very small special run of 673's in .243.  This caliber in a 673 is already hard to find.  If the production numbers that I hear are true for the 243, then the 243 will always hold its value because of the scarcity.

I also heard of a smaller special run of 6.8mm.  I asked around and none of the middlemen have heard of this caliber produced in the 673, so this rumor about a 6.8 in a 673 is probably false.  We shall see.

Remington does not release production numbers on a model that is still being produced.  It may be some time before we know what and how many of each were made.

In the meantime I plan on using mine.  I dont buy rifles to be dust collectors.

Got a .350 Mag.  Seems like it would be THE caliber,  since the whole concept started around it.    Although the .308 is probably more practical,  to be honest.
Good luck with 6.5 Mag brass,  this may have been the worst selling cartridge in post-WWII  history. That or the 8MM Mag.   Although in a 22 or 24 inch barrel, it is much more versatle than a .25-06.   Get the .308,  can't get too much of a good thing.   And let a little dust collect on the 6.5...............it might be worth something, someday.   NO,  not a year's tuition at Duke,  but enough of an increase to catch your attention.    Weird,  no one buys them when they sit on dealer's shelves,  they become discontinued,  and it seems like half of America was asleep,  and missed out, and wants one now.
Must have been the mindset at Remington,  to get back into this whole  ribbed-rifle thing.

It took me a week of phone calls to find 500 empty cases for the 6.5 mag.  I think I am prepared enough now.  My understanding is that they will only produce empty brass once a year for 5 years.  So it will always be somewhat scarce.  Buying reloading components is now my mission, which is another area I suggest people should be thinking ahead on.  A year or two from now, you will know what I mean.

I also did a little research and I found out that the 6.5 mag and the .350 mag are the same cartridge.  Both are necked down versions of the .300 H&H mag.

I decided to shoot the 6.5.  I don't want to buy stuff to let it set anymore.  Whether it appreciates in value or not, I have a place to use it.  It seems that no matter what rifle you buy today, in the next ten years it will seem like a bargain.  Times and prices are about to change drastically.  All will go up in value, some more than others.  Some alot more than the rest.
