Ruger #1 NECG peep sight
« on: October 29, 2006, 03:22:21 PM »
Has anyone installed a NECG peep sight on their Ruger #1 in 45-70?  If so, did you have to change the front sight?  Taller or shorter front sight?  Any info would be appreciated about using this peep sight on a Ruger #1 in 45-70.

Thanks

I put one on a few moths ago.   It worked fine with the front sight on my No.1.  I also found it held zero very well when removed and put back on.  The Ruger scope mount system is good, as I am able to switch from scope to aperture sight and have very little change in point of impact.

If the front you're using already works, the NECG should adjust to work just fine. Still, with aging eye which don't define the bead as I'd like, I replaced the Ruger bead with a NECG blade- they (NECG) makes several front sight options for Ruger ramps.

One thing to be aware of, if you try to use too large an aperture on the NECG, you may run into an aperture with flat sides. The NECG sight window is not large enough to accomodate the full view of the larger apertures. (I'm referring to Williams apertures, not the ones that come with the NECG sight.)

I use an NECG sight on my Savage99  as part of a system. I use a weaver base and the scope has Leupold QRW rings. I use two scopes one high powered variable and one 2 3/4 x Kahles which is on most of the time. But right now it is foggy and I would replace the scope with the presighted NECG. The fold down factory sight is there in case the NECG becomes lost. I do prefer apertures to open sights. Good luck with your NECG. Bandito

I tried that sight on a #1 in 45-70...it lasted 5 minutes and off it came and I sold it on Ebay...you cant use it without the aperature and it doesnt have a big enough hole...also agree with the flat sides...the idea was a good one but didnt work for me...will put a Williams on it and my 30-06...just my thoughts
