270 range report
« on: October 30, 2006, 11:34:54 AM »
I got a 270 barrel from shooter 72 it took me 3 trys to fit the barrel but finally got it, went out to my range with some 90-gr seirra hp and 48gr of IMR3031 I was getting little over 1.75" group with a 20 + mph head wind  I didnt think that was to bad I think with a little fine tuning of the lload and lower winds I should be able to get down to moa groups. This is going to be my coyote load, now I ned to start a 130gr load for deer before season in Dec.

My deer load this year, is 54.5 grains of imr4831 and a sierra 130 pro-hunter, it's well off max (57.2) but for some reason I was getting pressure signs at 56.5 (it's a stevens 200). I have been trying the "Optimal Charge Wieght" load testing methodand 54.5 was what I figure to be an optimal node. It's accurate and plesant to shoot but with out a coronograph I can only guess but I fingure I am somewhere between 2800-2900. eventually I want to try the tsx's or accubonds but for now that load should do.

huntnut ,
looks like the barrel is going to shoot for you , i would say that was pretty good with that wind and it being the first load !
