CZ cross bolts
« on: October 31, 2006, 08:48:47 AM »
I have read about instances of stock splitting on the 458 Lott American Safari, CZs.  I just put one on hold that had factory installed cross bolts, evidently in response to the splitting issue.  I called CZ and they verified that they cross bolts are now a factory standard on the big calibers.

I have to applaud CZ for their response to the problem.  I have a couple of their rifles, a 416 Rigby which has never had a splitting problem and now the Lott.  Great rifles, one and all.  the Rigby shoots 1" at 100 yards which for a big bore rifle, is really good.

The CZ's are great rifles, I have one in 416 Rigby and it is a tack driver.  ;D

Glad to hear that the factory is finally putting the crossbolts in!

Now, if they would just do something about the clubby/thick profile of the stock through the magazine area.

If CZ is so great why are they wanting to charge me 200.00 to install cross bolts in my 416 Rigby I purchased new last friday.  No cross bolts.

I don't have cross bolts and have not had any problems, I did have it glass beded and the gunsmith told me he did not think I needed any cross bolt.  But as far as charging you to do the cross bolts, why not? I
All the other guns made with them have it included in the price already.

Please show me examples of CZ`s sold with and with out the cross bolts and the price difference?  I have not seen any examples of it yet.  If I had I would not be upset.

Thats nothing ,when I asked them to send me a paper template so I counld install mine they said no. i said charge me $20.00 or $30.00 for the template they said they can't. just send it in and for $200.00 pluss shipping they would do it .so I shot it without glass bedding or cross bolting and cracked the stock. I got a new stock (used take off) for $75.00,but decided to put a McMilan stock on instead. thats what they  call top notch customer relations and service.you would think they would want to help thier loyal customers who have a problem with a dangerous design flaw in the stock that they have known about tor quite some time .when someone gets injured from a stock breaking or cracking and sues them maybe they wiil get the idea.I prefer the look of the wood over the McMilan ,but aint spending over $250.00 to fix thier design flaws.Shame on yo CZ. >:(

Hmmm very strange this as I have not heard of CZ stocks splitting over here. The only one I know that cracked was not CZ's fault as the rifle fell over after being leaned up against a car and it fell under the wheel of another car which rolled onto it cracking the stock through the wrist.

Perhaps it's CZ USA thing?

As for the drop design of the stock around the mag .............. well it's a function thing. Both Mauser and Westley Richards did it years ago. Custom Gunsmiths do it so the rifle is capable of holding more than 3 rounds. If you don't like the look have it changed or buy another make. simple really But please don't expect everyone else to change just for your likes and dislikes  ;)

I didn't pay anymore the cross bolt version, which was factory installed than other 458 Lotts, (new) from CZ currently out there.  As far as service, I have nothing but good luck with them.  This is the first time I have heard on a forum, first hand, of a stock splitting incident.  Having said that, CZ is not the only mfg. to have had the problem.  They probley should have started cross bolting a long time ago.  Then again, there are a ton of CZ Safari's out there being used in Africa and all over the world that don't have splitting problems.

I have two like I said before, a 416 Rigby Hogback with no cross bolts and a new 458 Lott American Safari with them.  Both are very well built, with close tolerances and incredible accuracy.

Well call me slow .................. but it was only last night that I disscovered that CZ & Brno had split with the split not being too friendly. This came about at an evening show for Counrty sports and I saw the new Brnos there and a particular 98 based Brno with a stunning Walnut stock. Seems our new UK importer is selecting to wood to be used on his rifles  ;D now if I ahd the money I would seriously be tempted byt bis rifle and I don't even now what cartridge it's chambered for  ::).
