6.5x55 target
« on: October 31, 2006, 01:47:36 PM »
Here is a target I shot today at 108 yards per the range finder. The hand gun is an Encore with a custom 10" Foxridge barrel. The hand loads are Hornaday 129 grain SST over a maximum charge of RL-15. This hand gun compliments my collection of 6.5 Swedish Mausers. All shots bench rest on sand bags. Not bad for a 10" handgun. The scope is a 2x Smith and wesson made by Nikon.

cheesehead,
I have become very interested in the 6.5 X 55 Swede lately.  At first I was thinking of a CZ 550 in that chambering but then I thought I might start with a Contender barrel.  I have a contender (not G2) and have been looking for a barrell.  I have found them for Encores but not Contenders. Does anybody make one?

Also, I would like to try the 6.5 Swede for it's accuracy and ballistic advatages.  You said it complimented your Mauser collection.  Would you still choose that chambering without the "collection."  Sorry if I'm pestering.

Frosty

The 6.5x55 is only available in the encore frame since the higher operating pressures require this. To be honest the great availability of the model 96 Mausers over the years have had a large part in my interest in the 6.5. I have wanted a 6.5 Mauser since I was a teenager and hunting with my cousins that carried the 6.5 years ago. The gun and the cartridge in my experience has had a reputation for accuracy and terminal performance beyond its caliber. The target I posted is an example of the inherent accuracy. If the flyer were discounted the group would be under one inch. I have a professionally customized model 96 that is the most accurate rifle in my small collection, 700 Rem. Abolt, 98 Mausers, ect.

Cheese,

Thanks for the reply.  I guess it's time for plan B or is it C.

How is that a 10in barrel?  Looking at the picture it looks like it must be 12in or even more.

My mistake, it is exactly 12 inches. I do not know how I got that wrong since I custom ordered it in 12 inch. I try to make as few mistakes as possible, but when I do it is always in public places with many witnesses.
