The new generation of "Sorbothane" butt pads are a wonderful gift to rifles that bite on both ends. I shoot a Howa 1500 in .338 WM. I added a Boyds JRS laminated stock and a Sorbothane (can't remember which brand) pad. The sensible design of the stock, combined with adequate mass (no, it's probably not a "mountain rifle") and the Sorbothane pad make the rifle fun to shoot. And my shoulder isn't technicolor after range sessions. In this guise, my .338 still RECOILS, but it doesn't HURT.
