550 grain crater bullet
« on: November 01, 2006, 10:35:31 AM »
I was looking at the 550gr jb young cast bullets they have one that will fit in the NEF 45/70 but the only load data that I can find is for the Marlin 45-70 guide gun. will this data work in the handi? it is using H322 at 38 to 40 grains with a 1460 - 1528 fps out of a 18.5" barrel any ideal if this will work.

The SB2 action on the Handi/Ultra/BC will handle any Marlin load and then some. ;)

It should. I shoot 525gr BTB with 39gr H322 in Starline brass. The pressure tested load is 41gr H322.

Be careful about brass because it doesn't all have the same capacity, wihich can raise havoc with pressures in the edges.

I get 1482fps out of the guide gun, that's plenty of snort for anything that moves.
