"Original Aydt" German Schuetzen Rifle
« on: April 19, 2003, 05:48:00 AM »
I'm hoping that somebody has one of these ornate German single shot target rifles. They are dropping block actions with ornate stocks with large exaggerated cheekpieces and curved buttplates.

To make a long story short, I obtained an "Original Aydt" barreled action (less butt stock). It was a WWII war trophy of my father's, but he gave it away 7 years before I was born. Then, thru a complicated process (part of the story) I got it back some 50 years later.

If anyone has one of these rifles, or knows somebody who has one, or of any forum where they are discussed, I'd appreciate hearing of it. I'm hoping to get stock measurements so I can carve a stock. I've already located a source for a buttplate.

I plan first to make one or two practice stocks from white pine, and then a good stock from walnut. If need be, I'll design the stock from old drawings and photos, but actual measurements would be a great help, expecially stock width or thickness which I can't derive from photos.

It's a very cool falling block action and since it was my deceased dad's war trophy, I'd like to restore it.

Go to the Schuetzen board over on Shooters.com or the MSN Schuetzen site. Very knowledgeable on the Aydt rifles as they are  still popular for that sport. MI-shooter
