MAC or Quick,I have a question.

I was thinking of stuff to put on my 45-70 Handi to give it a different look.I found a few thing in my Midway catalog.I want to get a Grip Cap from which company I don't know yet prices are all about the same.I was thinking of putting a NECG Masterpiece Banded Front Ramp on.It says there steel is in the white.Both the CAP and the RAMP SIGHT are in the white do you have to get them blued or if you don't will it rust fast.What go's in to putting on of these on ?
I was thinking of a Talley Barrel Band Swivel Base.How does one of these go on the barrel.Thanks,Dave.

How much work go's into putting on the front sight and the barrel band that I have listed above.


         (Should I put this under the gunsmithing forum.I don't think anyone on here knows the   answers to this one,because I don't think anyones done these things to an NEF.)Dave.

Dave, I've not done a barrel band on any rifle, but I do have a Brownell's grip cap that I bought to put on my CZ452, but I've never got around to putting it on, it will take a lot more work than I thought, so I haven't done it yet, got interested in other stuff.....mainly Handis!! Now I have the Encore to play with and just bought a .500S&W barrel, may never get the CZ modified!!

 For the stuff thats white metal it might have to be blued and so will the barrel if he has to slide them on .I'm going to get a hold of one of the gunsmiths around here and see if the front sight or the barrel band can be done on the Handi.Do you think the grip cap going to be a problem putting it on a synthetic stock.Dave

Since both are in the "white"...they will have to be polished and blued...otherwise they will rust and discolor...I'll have to check on the Talley's closed diameter...but if properly sized it should work fine..You'll just have to find it's balance point on the barrel...and prior to clamping it down..make sure it is perfectly smooth..or put some type of thin tape or friction paper in it...simalar to doing certain scope rings...The front site band has to be of proper diameter as well...and would be the same as the swivel base...Find me the numbers of what your looking at and I'll do smoe checking for ya...The grip cap will take some work getting it to go on properly...You have a choice of having a space behind it before the bottom edge of the stock..or a flush type where it blends in at the toe of the cap to where it meets the stock...I much prefere having a space behind it to accent it and the stock...sort of like a skeleton type grip cap...where the wood in the certer is exposed...

  It looks like I was writing mine as you were writing yours.The numbers for the stuff I was looking at the barrel band go's by sizes but the picture should be the same 662-019.Banded front sight is 219-874.My stock is synthetic I'm not sure if I can modifie it.If I had to for the grip cap.Thanks Dave.
